What does this thing do?
If you're like me, you spend your day working on a lot of different things. At the end of the day, you may not know where your time went. This application allows you to quickly enter a brief task name or description and move on with your work. When you get to your next task, just enter the new task description; the application keeps track of time for you.
At the end of the day, or the end of the week, you can see all the task entries and the time for the start of the task. You can also see how much time you spent on each task and how much time you spent in the period.
If you want categories, or projects, just use the tags. You can also use the tags to track how much time you spend doing boring and mundane tasks compared to exciting and rewarding tasks.
Time Tracker works as a simple Web application. Just input your task name and hit the enter key. You don't have to start and stop tasks and projects and all of that. If you want to see all of the tasks that you worked on in a day, just view the log. If you want to see how long you spent on tasks, view the summary. It's that simple.
What does it not do?
It's not a todo list, though we're thinking of building one.
It can't read your mind.
It doesn't clean your house or babysit your kids.
In fact, there's a whole lot it doesn't do. But, if there's something it doesn't do and you think it should, drop us a line and let us know what you're looking for.
Why?
We built this service because we couldn't find a time tracker to meet our needs. Most of them required too much input when changing tasks and made it difficult to see how long we spent on a task.
Most of the other products required us to set up and use "projects" and "sub-tasks." Every time we wanted to add another task, we had to go to a menu, or submit it under a project, etc. They restricted our tasks into a rigid hierarchy and didn't let us measure time in different ways.
Who built this thing?
My name is Michael Williamson and I am an Interaction Designer. As a user, I like things that are dead simple to use. Sometimes I'm in a keyboard-centric mood; other times I'm leaning on my mouse. I like tools that allow me to use both and require very little effort to get started.
I built this service along with a little help from my friends. These friends have graciously helped me (and some in anonymity, counting on me to take the brunt of any criticism). But all accolades are duly shared with my friends.
This project is a lot of work and we are still working on it. This is only one of several projects that we are working on and we hope to bring you more cool stuff in the future.
And, we're not done yet. We still have a lot of Dead Simple features that we want to add. Check out our Wishlist to see what we are working on. If you have anything to add to our Wishlist, we warmly welcome your feedback.
